Refugees Welcome Crawley’ (RWC) are looking for hosts for homeless refugees in the Crawley area. The situation is increasingly desperate day by day and there is little RWC can offer to keep people off the streets. Once people are granted refugee status, they are no longer eligible for Home Office accommodation and often have as little as 7 days’ notice to open a bank account, apply for Universal Credit, find a job and a home to rent. It is almost impossible to find somewhere affordable to live in such a short time-frame. Two refugee hosting charities link up hosts willing to offer a room in their own homes for temporary respite to refugees going through the steps needed to becoming self-sufficient. A room in a welcoming home for a pre-agreed length of time not only saves people from street homelessness but gives them a chance to start rebuilding their lives.
