Rosary Group

The Rosary is that traditional way of praying, using beads and reciting a series of prayers: the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be to the Father. Each cycle of twelve prayers is used to reflect on a particular event in the life of Jesus or a mystery of the Christian faith. Please contact Rachel Davies: 07801 696354.

Lectio Divina

Lectio Divina (Latin for Divine Reading) is the traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase our knowledge of God’s word. Christian Meditation

The Christian Meditation Group follows the example of John Main OSB and begins with a teaching, followed by half an hour of prayer focusing the body and mind by silent repetition of a mantra.

Monastic Horarium

The monks of Worth Abbey gather six times a day to celebrate the sacred liturgy. Each one has its own character.

  • Matins: The dark glimmer encourages an attentive listening to Psalms and Scripture.
  • Lauds: Praises the dawn of day – “the rising Sun has come to visit us”.
  • Midday Prayer: The short pause from work reminds and encourages us in our attentive waiting.
  • Monastic Mass: The heart of the day, the source and summit of the whole Christian life, as Vatican II called it.
  • Vespers: The hour allows the day to be drawn together as daylight fades and the distinct silence of night descends.
  • Compline: (meaning completion) is the conclusion of the monastic day. Entering the night, we pray “May the Lord grant us a quiet night and a perfect end”.
