Volunteering

Jesus has called each of us to use the gifts which have been entrusted to us to build up the body of Christ. We have each been uniquely blessed with talents, skills, temperaments and life experiences. Many parishioners contribute their skills and time to make our parish flourish, enhancing our lives and connections with each other in the process. There are many opportunities both within the parish and in the wider community to respond to the call to be 'good and faithful stewards'.

Does one of the ministries described below interest you? If so please consider helping in some capacity by indicating your interests on the Volunteer Form

CATECHESIS

The Church encourages us to continually renew our faith so that we may grow as Christians. If we are to become the evangelising Church that we are meant to be we need lifelong education, formation and spiritual development. A confident understanding of our faith will enable us to help those who are searching for a religious home or looking to reactivate their Catholic faith. We shall be training a team of catechists to help us to fulfill our aim to become a School of the Lord's Service. Please consider becoming part of that team; or perhaps you would be interested in forming a House Group?

Young people's catechesis helps the young of all ages to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and an increase in their knowledge of their faith. The parish needs catechists to communicate the fundamentals of the faith to various age groups, principally through sacramental preparation and also through the Junior Church during Sunday Mass

With the help of a leader a team of youth workers is required to enable young people to find an environment where they are safe and can grow in their faith. This might involve learning about the faith, prayer, activities and times away from the parish

SOCIAL JUSTICE

  Traidcraft Stall

Worth is a 'Fair Trade' parish. By buying direct from Traidcraft, rather than from a supermarket, we are contributing to the continuation of the wider work of Traidcraft. Would you be willing to help man our stall after Mass occasionally?

  Social Care

The Chuch is sent to care for those in need, physically, emotionally or spiritually and to work for peace and justice. There are many opporunities, both within and beyond the parish, to care for the most vulnerable among us. The Day Centre, the Easter Team, the Open House, Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group, LIFE, the Monica Cantwell Trust and the SVP are some of the local initiatives

Tuesday Day Centre for the Elderly

Each Tuesday in term time a Day Centre for the elderly takes place between 10.30 and 3.30 at Worth Abbey in Compass House. Approximately 30 elderly people are cared for in the Centre and for many it is the highlight of their week. The success of the Centre is dependent on people who are willing to give their time to help serve lunch, to listen and to make people feel welcome and at home. Please do consider helping in this rewarding work

HOSPITALITY

St Benedict says in his Rule "All who arrive as guests are to be welcomed like Christ"

The Welcome Ministry ensures that all parishioners, but especially newcomers, receive a warm welcome and whatever guidance and help they may need when they come to Mass
Tea and coffee are served in the Narthex after the 9.30am Mass every Sunday. We need people to fill up the kettle, put out the biscuits, pour the tea and coffee. This is a great way to get to know people if you are new to the parish

SERVING YOUR PARISH

Parish Visiting

"I was sick and you visited me"

Visiting and comforting thos who cannot attend Mass due to age or illness is a very important part of our Christian duty. When we offer our support to the sick, the elderly, the housebound and those in any kind of need in our parish and in the wider community we are living out Jesus' teaching
Car Sharing Getting to Mass at Worth can be a problem if you don't have transport. Drivers are needed to bring parishioners to Mass who would not otherwise be able to attend
  Printing and Graphic Design

The parish is generating lots of activities which sometimes need a more skilful hand at, for example, designing a poster or flyer. Help with the printing of various items such as In Touch and Orders of Service would also be very welcome

Parish Choir

Do you enjoy singing? Why not join our friendly parish choir? All voices and abilities are welcome, with rehearsals once or twice a month after the 9.30 Sunday Mass

OUTREACH

  Friendship Parish in Irundu
Our parish now has firm links with our friendship parish in Uganda and small groups of parishioners visit Irundu on average two or three times a year to strengthen this bond, learn about the way of life there and to offer their skills. This can be a very enriching experience and well worth considering. We can also become involved at Worth itself through twinning of our House Groups and helping with publcity and fundraising

Journalism

Do you have a flair for writing? The Editor of P2 - the parish evangelising magazine - is always looking for suitable articles. Maybe you have expertise on a specific subject which you would like to share
