The Diocesan Annual Justice and Peace Assembly took place at the St Philip Howard Centre in Crawley on 25th January. This year’s theme, with speakers from charities across Sussex and Surrey, focussing on the needs of the homeless, was especially timely, given the number living on our streets or in inadequate accommodation.
Attendees learnt a great deal about the current homelessness crisis, including the factors that contribute to it and the action that, we, as Christians, should take. The Social Action page of the diocesan website has links to many of the day’s presentations.
The Assembly culminated with Bishop Richard signing an application for the Diocese to join the Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN), a worldwide network for social action established by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. The formal application to join CSAN will open up new possibilities for the Social Action of the Diocese.
