“Lord, teach us how to pray…” his disciples asked. He said to them: “When you pray, say: Father, may your name be held holy your Kingdom come; give us each day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us; and do not let us fall into temptation.” Lk 11: 1-4
Prayer is the raising up of the heart and the mind to God, and all who are Christian need to seek themselves and the Lord Jesus in this prayer. It is not a dispensable option, and Jesus himself called to us to pray as part of the fullness of living. It is humbly presenting ourselves to encounter the Lord in the sure hope that we will be transformed.
The Meditation Group helps us to focus on prayer in a special way and it meets every Wednesday at 8.00 pm in the Unity Room, just off the Abbey Church. It follows the example of John Main OSB and begins with a teaching, followed by a half hour of prayer focusing the body and mind by the silent repetition of a mantra.
